David Stewart developed The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 years ago by first resting the liquid for nearly 14 years in traditional oak barrels. He then transferred the whisky to barrels that had previously contained Cuban rum for a final maturation period of a few months. To create the perfect finish, the Cellar Master filled American oak barrels with his own blend of high quality Caribbean rums. When he felt that the barrel was ready, the rum was replaced by the 14-year-old whisky and the wood began its work by adding the finishing touches. The result is an exceptional Single Malt that combines the traditional sweet and honeyed flavour of The Balvenie whiskies with caramel notes and a fruity touch. The finish is warm and persistent.
